You won’t believe where the world’s first zero-carbon city will be. I expected that it would be somewhere in Europe, or perhaps even some small town in the United States. Instead, it is being built in the Middle East, seventeen miles from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. It is called Masdar City, and it will be a hub for companies that research and build clean energy. I am struck by the reality that one of the most oil rich countries in the world is building the first zero-carbon city. Maybe there really is something to this zero-carbon idea after all.
